- SoftWave-Led Knee Care

Knee pain is an issue that negotiates with you one flight of stairs at a time. At first, you may find yourself climbing up the stairs just a bit slower. Eventually, you may even start leading with your good leg forward while you start scanning the building for the nearest elevator. And then, before you know it, you’ve even stopped running altogether and tell yourself that it’s a simple lifestyle choice. The knee is the joint people surrender to the earliest, and that’s because everything you do rests on your knee.
Knees are also the joint Dr. Tony Nicholas treats the least like your traditional chiropractor, and he is very open as to why. At Axis Health and Wellness in Centennial, we always turn to SoftWave therapy for knee pain. Not as a supplement to traditional knee adjustments, but as the main treatment for the issue. Because after years of experience watching how knees respond to adjustments, the SoftWave simply excels every single time.
How Knee Pain Shows Itself
- Achy, sharp, or stabbing pain in and around the knee joint.
- Increased difficulty going up stairs, especially going up.
- Difficulty running, to the point you start avoiding it
- A grinding feeling in the knee when it bends and receives load.
These are the four main complaints our knee patients come to us with and repeat week after week. Whether the knee in question is arthritic, injured, or simply worn down by years of use, these symptoms are what’s common between them.
The Knees We Treat
- Arthritic knees
- Damaged and worn knees
- Torn meniscus
- Jumper’s knee and tendon pain
- Sports injuries in adults and teens
- Osgood-Schlatter’s in growing athletes
We put so much focus on the knee, that we actually run advertisements specifically calling those suffering from knee and shoulder pain. Meanwhile, many of our knee patients go straight to the SoftWave room on their very first visit, just right after a quick exam and consultation.
Why SoftWave’s the Leading Answer on Every Knee
SoftWave therapy sends acoustic waves into the damaged tissue of the joint, increasing blood flow and switching back on the body’s very own repair response. Chronic knee pain usually resides in a knee that the body has stopped trying to heal altogether, and the whole point of SoftWave is to restart that process. And so, Dr. Tony chose SoftWave because knees and shoulders were the joints that traditional chiropractic served the worst.
- Sessions take about ten minutes. They’re non-invasive, and have little to no side effects.
- Occasional mild swelling afterward that settles within a day or two.
- Not used near a pacemaker, and a knee with a recent cortisone shot just has to wait at least three weeks before treatment.
- First SoftWave session is just $49, so you can find out if your knee responds before committing to anything.
“I always use the SoftWave on knees. I almost never do just chiropractic treatment. I trust it. It gets amazing results.”
Dr. Tony Nicholas, D.C.What Your First Visit Looks Like
- 1 The full story of the knee. When it started, what it stops you from doing, any old injuries, and everything you have tried, from braces to injections.
- 2 An exam and consultation. Quick and focused for a straightforward knee treatment. Deeper when the history calls for it, and with x-rays when the need arises.
- 3 SoftWave treatment, often the same day. Most knee patients get their first session on visit one.
- 4 Weekly re-evaluation. The plan is tailored to how the knee responds, not to any preset schedule.
How Many Sessions a Knee Takes
A fresh injury is evaluated on a week to week basis. Meanwhile, Chronic and arthritic knees usually land in the six to ten sessions range, with progress re-checked weekly and the plan adjusted accordingly based on knee development. Just remember, younger patients usually heal faster, overall health moves the numbers, and the honesty rule is always enforced. So, when a knee is not responding by around the 8 to 12 visit mark, we make sure to have it referred to the right specialist instead of re-booked.
Get Medical Evaluation First If
- The knee pain comes from real trauma, so a badly torn ligament, cartilage, or meniscus can be ruled out.
- The knee popped, gave way, and swelled up rapidly.
- You suspect a fracture for any reason, or if the joint looks deformed in any way.
Think of us for the the everyday problems. The aches, the grind, and the hard to climb stairs, the type of knee issues the doctor calls arthritis and simply shrugs at. Problems such as these are exactly what we treat with the SoftWave every single day.
What It Costs
When you come in, your first SoftWave session is $49, while your first chiropractic visit with treatment is $29. We accept all types of insurance except Medicaid. For payment, we accept HSA and FSA cards, CareCredit, Cherry, cash, and credit cards, with a variety of payment plans available. The plans also include no interest options stretching up to two years, so we can make sure the treatment fits the budget instead of the other way around.
Knee Pain FAQs
Why should I see a chiropractor for a knee?
For the SoftWave, mostly, and that is Dr. Tony’s own answer. He almost never treats knees with chiropractic treatment alone, because acoustic wave therapy simply gets better results on joints as opposed to adjustments. Many patients come to this office specifically for knee SoftWave treatment.
When the spine, hips, or gait are feeding the knee problem, that’s when adjustments join the plan. The exam decides that, the adjustments are not included by default.
Can SoftWave help an arthritic knee?
Arthritic knees is one of the main reasons the device was chosen in the first place. This is alongside damaged knees, torn menisci, and tendon problems. The SoftWave therapy is meant to stimulate both blood flow and the body’s repair response in a joint where healing has gone dormant. This typically lasts across the course of six to ten sessions.
And, because the risk profile is low, trying one or two sessions to see how your knee responds is a reasonable choice for almost anyone suffering from knee issues.
What about a torn meniscus?
Torn menisci are on the list of conditions treated with SoftWave. But, the important factor is how the tear happened and how the knee behaved. If a knee popped, gave way, and swelled fast after some trauma, this needs medical imaging first to rule out damage that conservative care, such as SoftWave, cannot fix.
Now, the degenerative, wore-down-over-years version is a different story, and it is one that the SoftWave handles regularly for patients.
Why do stairs hurt more than walking?
Stairs multiply the load on your knees, it pushes several times your body weight through a bent joint. This is exactly the position where an irritated joint surface or tendon has the least amount of room to work properly. That is why stairs and running are the first casualties of a knee problem, and the same reason it’s the first things patients get back to when it starts to heal.
if you experience a grinding feeling when going up stairs, make sure to mention it in the exam. This says something about what the joint surfaces are doing, and can lead to a better planned treatment.
I have had cortisone shots. Does that change anything?
Only the timing. If you’ve received a cortisone injection for your knee, then you have to wait at least three weeks before receiving SoftWave treatment on that specific area. Plenty of our knee patients come over only after the injection route stopped giving good results. It has no effect whatsoever on your eligibility, just on when you can take it.
Bring the injection dates to your first visit and we can build the plan around them.
My teenager’s knee hurts below the kneecap. Same treatment?
That description in a growing athlete often points to Osgood-Schlatter’s, a growth plate condition, rather than adult-style knee damage, and it is one of the youth conditions treated here with SoftWave. Dr. Tony himself has two young athletes at home and treats their growing knees regularly.
Also to consider is that kids heal faster than adults, so their plans typically run shorter.
Am I too old for this to work?
It has an effect on your treatment timeline, but not on your eligibility. Younger patients heal quicker while older knees take more sessions. Overall health, weight, and diet have a definite effect on the numbers too. But while the timeline changes, what does not change is the process. You will still have weekly re-evaluations, a plan that follows your response, and a referral to a specialist if the knee is not improving by the 8 to 12 visit mark.
The reason the first $49 session exists is precisely so the knee itself can answer this question for you.
